Feature Film (2016) – The Last Inhabitant marks Fish Eye Art Cultural Foundation’s second full-length feature film, a profound human drama that explores the aftermath of war and the enduring power of forgiveness. Written by Dzovinar Khachaturyan and directed by Jivan Avetisyan, the film was shot in the picturesque village of Khachmach in the Republic of Artsakh, where the director grew up—adding authenticity and emotional depth to the story. The film features Alexander Khachatryan (Armenia), Homayoun Ershadi (Iran), Sandra Daukshta (Lithuania), and Juris Lauciņš (Latvia), with an original score composed by Serj Tankian of System of a Down. The Last Inhabitant premiered at the Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival before touring major international festivals, standing as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the director’s deep connection to his homeland.
The film is set in 1988, just before the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Evicted as a result of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, Abgar stays behind alone inside a gradually shrinking enemy ring. He is waiting for his daughter, who has become a witness to her husband’s murder by an angry mob and was hospitalized with trauma. Ibrahim, an Azerbaijani, suggests that Abgar work on the construction of a mosque with the promise to find and return Abgar's missing daughter. A few days later, Ibrahim finds the girl, named Yurga, in a psychiatric hospital of Baku and brings her to Abgar.
